The American Legion Department of Georgia

Department Commanders Special Project

The Department Commanders Special Project is a project of all of the Department Leaders; the Department Commander, the Detachment SAL Commander, the Department Auxiliary President and the Legion Riders State Director.  The goal of the Special Project is to raise at least $100,000 to benefit Georgia Veterans receiving care in a VA Hospital or clinic.  Funds are not dispersed for Medical Research, which is another fund of the Department.

Each year, the VA receives appropriated funding from congress to operate its hospitals and clinics.  However, in addition to operational costs, there are numerous items that are desired in addition to the appropriated funds.  That’s where the Commanders Project tries to fill in the gap.  Each year, the VA Hospitals and Clinics, supporting Georgia Veterans, will send in a “Wish List” of items to the Department for consideration.  The list includes comfort items such as, ice cream socials, pizza parties, games, puzzles, books, electronics and furniture replacements not covered by appropriations as just a few examples.  At the Department Convention, VA representatives will be presented a check to meet those needs as much as possible.  These presentations, supporting Georgia Veterans, are only possible through your generous donations to the Special Project.

To contribute to the Special Project for the ALR State Director, bring your donations to Spring Conference ALR meeting or mail them to 129 Brandi Dr, Hiram, GA 30141.  Checks should be made out to “DOG ALR” with “Commanders Project” noted in the memo section.

Thank you in advance for your donations!
